Company Overview

Our Vision

A country where home and community are steppingstones to more.

Who We Are

Enterprise is the only national nonprofit that addresses America’s affordable housing crisis from every angle, combining 40 years of experience, thousands of local partners and the expertise of over 1,100 employees nationwide.

What We Do

  • We develop and deploy programs and support community organizations on the ground.

  • We advocate for policy on a nonpartisan basis at every level of government.

  • We invest capital to build and preserve rental homes people can afford.

  • And we own and operate 13,000 affordable homes and provide resident services for 22,000 people.

All so that people not only make rent, they build futures.

Our Mission

To make home and community places of pride, power and belonging, and platforms for resilience and upward mobility for all.

How We're Organized

Enterprise is organized around three central goals: to increase housing supplyadvance racial equity and build resilience and upward mobility.

To achieve these goals, we operate across three divisions – Solutions, Capital and Communities – that unify and leverage a family of companies together to execute our work:

  • Our Solutions division operates a 501(c)(3) nonprofit nationwide with programmatic, policy, advisory and capacity-building arms at the national, state and local level, working in more than 800 communities and in collaboration with thousands of partners in the nonprofit, public and for-profit sectors.

  • Our Capital division comprises several subsidiaries: a 501(c)(4) nonprofit that invests and asset manages a range of tax credits and equity; a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is one of the country’s largest publicly-rated Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI); and a controlling interest in Bellwether Enterprise, through which we also provide access to conventional mortgage products.

  • Our Communities division operates a 501(c)3 nonprofit that is the nation’s fifth-largest affordable housing nonprofit developer, owner, operator and provider of resident services.

Our Impact
With this end-to-end approach, 40 years of experience and thousands of local partners, Enterprise has built and preserved 793,000 homes, invested $61 billion in communities and changed millions of lives.

Why Work for Enterprise

We’re proud to be named one of the 100 most adoption-friendly workplaces by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption

United by a Common Goal

Enterprise employees are committed to our mission of helping people and communities, and enjoy working in a collaborative, respectful environment. Though we work in cities from coast to coast, our work connects us every day, and events like staff meetings, fundraisers and grand openings bring us together many times a year.

Embracing Work-Life Balance
One of the reasons Enterprise was named a Top Workplace by The Baltimore Sun is because of our employees, who said they care about flexibility in their jobs and feel encouraged by their managers and leadership to exercise work-life balance.

Our progressive and inclusive family leave policies offer: 12 weeks of paid time-off for mothers, fathers, and adoptive and foster parents; six weeks of paid time-off for caregivers to care for dependent family members with qualified illnesses; and financial support to employees who are growing their families through adoption, surrogacy and foster care.

Providing Opportunities for Growth
Enterprise offers internal staff resources and training for management and community development, plus Learn @ Enterprise online sessions on topics like wellness and retirement planning.

A Culture of Giving Back
Through our James W. Rouse Day of Service, staff volunteer at community centers, parks, elementary schools, homeless facilities and more. We also give back to our communities through an annual campaign for the United Way (last year Enterprise raised more than $90,000) and through American Red Cross blood drives.

Our Structure & What We Do
Enterprise has a unique business structure that allows us to fulfill a diverse set of functions critical to our work. Employees across each of these entities work closely with one another, and all operate as one Enterprise, united by our mission.
