At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Aircraft Systems Integration Manufacturing Lead to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- The incumbent will functionally report to the Senior Operations Manager at the Aurora Virginia site.
- Working with The Chief Manufacturing IPT Lead, lead and integrate the efforts at Aurora's Research & Development, Prototype, and Manufacturing sites, including customer locations, along with suppliers and associate contractors in vehicle systems and components integration in the aircraft manufacturing, final assembly, integration, and test environments.
- Participate in the planning, development, production, and fielding of manned or unmanned aerial systems, optionally piloted vehicles and related aviation products and programs.
- Perform and lead aircraft systems manufacturing integration including the required analyses to support systems integration that can include modeling of layouts, build positions, and simulation when needed; manufacturing integration safety risk assessments; and hazards analyses. Supporting risk register assignments and ranking.
- Lead and guide the team. Including Manufacturing Engineers supporting individual subsystems of the aircraft.
- Actively support or lead internal/external integration, test, deployment, delivery, and flight readiness gate reviews and flight test events.
- Support the development and/or support high quality technical reports, white papers, and briefings related to aircraft systems integration including IMP/IMS, Manufacturing Plans, WBS, PMR, SEMP, Hazard matrices, TEMP, V&V plans, CDRLS, etc. that address requirements management, technical roadmaps, statements of work, analysis of alternatives, support concepts of operation, support system architecture and design, risk management, requirements verification, reliability, safety, logistics, verification, certification, validation, sustainability, configuration management, effectivity, interface management, performance management, etc.
- Support the Chief Manufacturing IPT Lead in internal/external test, integration, and deployment, delivery, and flight readiness gate reviews.
- Proactively identify, mitigate, monitor, and control technical and program risks.
- Leadership: 2-3 years' experience successfully leading integration teams with five or more Manufacturing Engineers, also influencing the suppliers and customers.
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace science, engineering, or aviation related field and subject matter expertise (14 or more years of experience) in aircraft systems integration with hands-on experience with the integration, and test for ground up builds of manned and unmanned aircraft or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience, 18 years' related work experience, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience with NAS regulatory compliance issues.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, manage, allocate, and derive systems integration related hardware, aircraft system, and sub system requirements that span the aircraft system life cycle.
- Demonstrated ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a dynamic environment.
- Strong technical writing experience and demonstrated effective communication skills - spoken and written.
- An entrepreneurial and flexible self-starter with a high energy level and a systems engineering mindset.
- Must be a US Person.
- Travel to customer sites and subcontractor sites when needed. 25% to 50%.
- Master's in a science, engineering, or aviation related field.
- Formal aircraft systems integration education and training.
- FAA Pilot Certification.
- A passion and motivation for a long-term career in aviation.
- Some shift work may be required.
- Work onsite at AVA (Manassas, VA).
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and wear proper PPE.
- Able to meet EHS standards for safety, lifting, etc.
