Job Description
Job Summary The Driver-Courier drives automobile or light truck to deliver messages, documents, packages and mail to various business concerns or governmental agencies, may occasionally transport office personnel and visitors, perform miscellaneous errands, such as carrying mail to and from the post office and sorting or opening incoming and outgoing mail. The Driver Courier may obtain receipts for articles delivered and keep a log of items received and delivered, and deliver items to offices and departments within an establishment. Active secret security clearance or ability to obtain one required.

Primary Duties Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.
  • Responsible for pickup and delivery of mail in a safe timely manner to customer or destination according to the assigned schedule and designated routes.
  • Perform daily inspection of vehicle to include, but not be limited to: ensuring that the tires are in good condition, oil and water are at appropriate levels, the exterior of the van has not been damaged, etc.; and provide written documentation to supervisor of needed service or repairs. Maintain interior vehicle cleanliness on a daily basis and exterior as needed.
  • Maintains logbooks documenting all pick-ups and deliveries and accurately complete mileage and time logs.
  • Ensure that employees/route listing, directions and maps are in the van. Ensure that the proper number of flares, safety triangles, first aid kits, jacks, flashlights, etc., are in the van and in proper working order.
  • Collect, record, control, sort, delivers, and dispatches all incoming and outgoing expedited courier material in accordance with DOD, DON, and USPS regulations and policies.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Deliver interoffice mail and picks up mail from mail stops.
  • Perform x-ray scan using an x-ray machine to scan all mail and packages for security of customers if required by contract.
  • If required at site, pull bags to be sent at the end of the day.
  • Responsible for performing job in safe manner, with concern for others and a desire to increase production If needed, process machine able mail (folding, inserting, sealing, and opening).
  • Follow HAZMAT procedures for handling potentially hazardous mail.
  • Process accountable mail utilizing accountable mail tracking system.
  • Process unidentifiable accountable mail May require opening and reading mail and forward to appropriate location.
  • May require processing requests for publications.
  • Perform duties of a mail meter on an as needed basis.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • Experience in operating various mail room machines preferred.
  • Experience in UPS and Federal Express shipping and procedures preferred.
  • Active secret security clearance or ability to obtain one required.
  • Valid driver's license and a good motor vehicle record (MVR) required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent oral and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work on routine and repetitive tasks for long periods with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to stand, reach, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to make minor decisions regarding mail issues/questions.
  • Knowledge of U.S Postal regulations in the process of dealing with incoming, outgoing, certified, registered, insured and express mail preferred
  • This position requires familiarity with the terminology of the office unit.
  • Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software and accountable mail tracking system.
  • Basic typing skills

Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee will be visiting a variety of locations in the community and can occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the ServiceSource work environment is usually quiet. The noise level at locations at community locations could be quiet, moderate, or loud.
