Job Description

Position Objective:

Performs MRI procedures on all age groups in accordance with established professional and departmental standards and procedures.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Performs routine and complex MRI procedures in accordance with established safety and quality standards and the special needs of patients.
  2. Processes MRI scan sequences; verifies demographics and technical information; checks technical quality of films.
  3. Participates as a member of a specialized medical team in performing specialized MRI scans of various organs and in preparing patients for specific procedures. Reviews pathology, surgical, and other reports to monitor patient progress and provide a means for evaluating the accuracy of MRI examinations.
  4. Constantly assess patients' condition and administers first aid as required; assists physicians in cases of adverse reactions or emergencies.
  5. Confers with Supervisor to recommend changes, report problems and provide feedback to improve patient care, technical quality and clerical functions.
  6. Monitors equipment performance and reports problems to the Manager; records malfunctions as required.
  7. Assists in the clinical instruction of technologists and students when needed.
  8. Provides care for physically and mentally compromised patients.
  9. Appropriately prioritizes patients in work flow
  10. Proficient in assisting the patient care team in MR sedation cases.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a two-year radiological technology program in AMA approved educational institution
  • Ability to complete initial (or as directed) competency on IV injections
  • Able to complete all MR examination types including cardiac pace maker, pediatric and anesthesia supported cases.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Certification in diagnostic radiography by American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) and 18 months on the job training if ARRT registration is not obtained OR Successful completion of cross training program within established guidelines specified.
  • Current State of Maryland licensure as Radiology Technologist required.
  • CPR certification
  • MR certification

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands - Heavy

Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
