GSK is currently looking for an EHS Manager to join a high performing EHS Team in Rockville, MD. The ideal candidate will bring unquestioned EHS technical and leadership competency to the role and ability to drive continuous EHS Improvement and risk reduction.

A key attribute of the successful candidate will be the ability to further develop a truly engaging EHS Culture where everyone works together to reduce health and safety risks and create an environment which allows people to be at their best.

An experienced EHS practitioner, ideally with pharmaceutical experience, for this role to have already led or currently leading successful EHS programmes and will bring with them strong leadership skills.

Initially the successful candidate will be responsible for overall management and improvement of the Sites EHS Performance working with the EHS Director and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To ensure EHS is consistently at the top of the site agenda, driving improvement every day
  • To ensure sustainable, competitive business advantage through leadership and excellence in Environment, Health, and Safety.
  • To provide professional and specialist advice and support to the site to ensure the business remains legally compliant as a minimum. In so doing to identify relevant legislation, Corporate EHS expectations and other stakeholder requirements and to understand forthcoming legislation and ensure implications for the business are understood and acted upon.
  • To maintain and develop the EHS Management Systems and associated activities.
  • To advise and assist with the assessment of risk and its control to avoid or minimize loss in existing and proposed processes. Support projects to ensure EHS considerations are identified and addressed. Ensure robust risk management is in place and in use. To lead, contribute and support incident investigations to ensure appropriate actions and learnings are in place.
  • To identify best practice and opportunities for improvement in meeting corporate EHS policy, standards, targets and objectives. To develop and ensure procedures to meet EHS responsibilities.
  • To monitor EHS performance and trends and develop solutions to continuously improve performance.
  • To maintain, influence and coordinate effective relationships with external regulatory authorities and negotiate and maintain site authorizations and licenses.
  • Support the EHS Director as prime EHS duty holder and identify & support other duty holders for key risk areas, including the ENG Director as Duty Holder for Process, Electrical, Utility and Machine Safety.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Environmental, Science, Engineering, or EHS discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in EHS management or consulting, or EHS program development and implementation.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience preferred
  • Experience with highly technical industrial safety programs (e.g. confined space, process safety, working at heights, PTW, Contractor Safety, etc.)
  • Successful experience in influencing a matrix organization.
  • Experience in making decisions in a pressurized and fast-moving environment.
  • Successful safety leadership experience acquired in the Pharmaceutical or Consumer Manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of US Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, and expectations.
  • Proven record of delivery of EHS in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent computer skills primarily with Microsoft Office Suite and

  • Highly effective written, oral and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands, think strategically and successfully lead multiple simultaneous projects
