Job Description

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Technologist forthe Stem Cell Core and Research labs of Dr. Nicholas Maragakis. The Research Technologist will work in the lab in support of cutting-edge human stem cell work in the area of neurodegeneration. The successful candidate will be performing routine stem cell work and following protocols under close supervision. The candidate will work with all members of the lab and will assist as needed in aseptic cell culture techniques, histology and various additional biochemical techniques. General day-to-day laboratory maintenance and general lab upkeep are also required. Will work under Biosafety levels 1, 2 and 3.


The Research Technologist will be regularly responsible for administrative and scientific activities with the labs. This includes project support, invoice payments, reimbursements, service contract procurement and payment, equipment maintenance, animal surgery suite management, budgeting, manuscript composition.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise data collection on multifaceted projects relative to ALS relating to both stem cells technologies as well as in vivo animal surgeries, behavior and breeding.
  • Follow established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments, which may include Stem cell line maintenance and expansion using aseptic technique.
  • Perform additional laboratory experiments such as molecular analyses following established protocols as needed.
  • Meet regularly with designated laboratory staff to review recent data, troubleshoot current experiments, review new experimental protocols and prioritize new experiments.
  • Demonstrate independent judgement, organization, curiosity, problem solving, resourcefulness, and flexibility.
  • Time flexibility for working hours required to accommodate human stem cells.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
  • Aseptic cell culture of mammalian cells require. Human iPSC experience preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)
