We have an exciting full-time opportunity for a Manager, Corporate and Foundation Relations to join the AAAS Advancement Office. At this critical time for science and society, foundation and corporate partners increasingly recognize the importance of AAAS's work to advance science, engineering and innovation for the benefit of all. Giving has increased dramatically and philanthropy has emerged as a growing priority for AAAS leadership. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Partnerships in our Washington, DC office, this individual will play a vital role in our continued philanthropic growth by identifying, cultivating, stewarding, and expanding relationships with corporations and foundations across the United States, as well as managing and contributing to AAAS-wide interactions with corporate and foundation partners and prospects to support AAAS, the Science family of journals, and our programs. In addition, this individual will generate compelling proposals, reports, and other critical fundraising materials for a broad range of activities and a diverse set of prospects and donors.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain a portfolio of current and prospective corporate and foundation partners. Develop appropriate cultivation strategies in collaboration with the Director, Strategic Partnerships and other philanthropy and program staff, and complete a target number of discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship moves each year.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to identify fundraising priorities; solicit and close corporate and foundation gifts to advance priority programs; and support the fundraising efforts of program staff and AAAS leadership to achieve annual funding goals.
  • Proactively monitor and respond to evolving foundation funding opportunities.
  • Manage prospects, portfolio, and reports in Raiser's Edge, including action tracking and financial analyses; provide regular reports on actions made.
  • Support Chief Advancement Officer by inputting executives' corporate and foundation actions in Raiser's Edge; serve as a backup to Manger, Operations in the AAAS Philanthropy Office to provide assistance with gift entry as needed.
  • Serve as a central member of a cohesive and dynamic Advancement team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Impeccable written and oral communication skills
  • Three to five years of successful fundraising experience, including a demonstrated portfolio of proposal writing and other fundraising materials and some frontline development work
  • Eagerness to engage in frontline fundraising with corporate and foundation prospects and successful track record of soliciting corporate/foundation grants
  • Familiarity with fundraising best practices, standards, and ethics
  • Strong self-starter
  • Ability to work in a small team environment without extensive back-office support
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, set and meet goals and deadlines
  • Understanding of, support for, and ability to compellingly communicate the mission of AAAS
  • Experience in a science, research, STEMM, or science-related non-profit and/or with science and technology-based foundation/corporate funders preferred
  • Some graphic design experience a plus
  • Proficiency with Raiser's Edge fundraising database a plus
  • Ability to travel occasionally (likely less than 10 percent time)
