Description

The Atlantic Council seeks an inquisitive nonprofit development professional to help drive the business development work of an expanding fundraising operation supporting global policy programs. The Assistant Director is an integral member of the Business Development team within the Office of Finance and Operations (OFO). The position focuses on activities related to developing, copyediting and formatting of proposals for funding opportunities across public sector, foundations, corporate and individual donors. The Assistant Director works with all programs/centers at the Council and supports all business development functions across the team. The Assistant Director will be responsible for supporting prospect research, drafting solicitation letters, drafting briefing memos, and ensuring data integrity through data entry and management of Salesforce and other databases.


A successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, communicate effectively, and enjoy the complexity of supporting a rapidly growing program. The candidate should preferably possess excellent writing and copyediting skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with grant writing. The position requires superb administrative and communication skills, understanding of grants and contracts, and data entry through professional experience and academic work.


This position is based in our Washington, DC, headquarters on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $55,000. Applications submitted by May 20, 2024, will be prioritized for consideration.

Job Responsibilities
  • Proposal Development: Support the writing, review and copyediting of technical applications, memos and briefs, and the finalization and packaging of proposals for submission.
  • Prospect Research: Research, review, and develop a pipeline of HNWI, corporate, foundation, public sector and other prospects across a variety of subject matters and associate with affinities across the Council. Develop prospect memos and briefings ahead of meetings.
  • Administrative Support: Draft solicitation letters; thank you notes; schedule meetings for fundraisers; support event planning for roundtables and other fundraising events.
  • Coordination: Raise awareness within the Development team on key upcoming events by serving as the Development liaison with the Atlantic Council's Engagement team.
  • Operations: Provide high quality, timely administrative support to support the development pipeline of key donors (e.g., scheduling, basic IT support, Salesforce data entry, Monday.com support, notetaking). Provide general administrative support with contracts and grants, track deliverables and aid with stewardship of key partners.
  • Knowledge Management: Ensure updated and accurate file management. Manage and maintain a library of capacity statements and past performance references (PPRs). Maintain data entry and relevant Salesforce opportunities. Organize and centralize the Development file management system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant field required.
  • 2-3 years of experience working in the non-profit, government, and/or corporate sectors preferred (volunteer and paid experience applicable) Experience in aerospace, finance, private equity and tech preferred.
  • Experience copyediting, formatting, grant writing and Salesforce/ Monday.com preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of the proposal development process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills, including ability to identify, balance and rapidly shift priorities as needed.
  • Ability to make sound judgments, assume responsibility, and work independently in a fluid environment with tight deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to manage upward to move assignments to completion in a timely and professional manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills appropriate for operating effectively in a multicultural, international team environment.
  • The ideal candidate will be a data-driven, detail-oriented, self-starter and a good problem solver.
  • Excellent computer skills using MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Sharepoint are required.
  • Experience in fields of international development and/or business development preferred.
  • Experience working/living internationally preferred.
