Summary:

The U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL) Enroute Care Group is looking for a Research Engineer to provide engineering services and test protocol development/execution in support of USAARL research and test projects.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

    Perform laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and other scientific and administrative tasks in the field of engineering.
  • Prepare test and evaluation test plans, research protocols, and technical reports to include environmental chamber test methods to include, but not limited to, vibration, climatic, altitude, rapid decompression, sand, dust, rain, explosive atmosphere, salt fog, acceleration, and drop testing.
  • Use principles of and integrate aspects of scientific, engineering, and medical fields to accomplish project goals.
  • Conduct MIL-STD Lab Testing on medical items per MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.
  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job, including but not limited to relevant standard operation procedures, national standards of research technical accuracy, and/or written guidelines provided.
  • Assist with acquiring, analyzing, and evaluating data gathered during research. Requires knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Rely on instructions and guidelines to perform all job functions and assist with documentation on research progress and findings.
  • Reads, understands, and executes techniques and procedures within the quality standards and timelines prescribed by the research plan.
  • Record all laboratory procedures, relevant project data, and results in government-authorized notebooks and electronic systems in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Specialized skills may be required, including but not limited to, experience in photometry/radiometry, electro-optics, optical engineering, acoustical engineering, applied mathematics (e.g., linear systems analysis), and computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, C++, machine vision, AI, or expert systems development).
  • Experience working in a Test Environment.
  • Experience creating reports, presentations, and papers to summarize research findings.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing research data.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Aeronautical background and knowledge of helicopter/rotary-wing avionics.
  • Experience with MATLAB and working with large data sets.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • At least one year of related experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree.
  • One-three years of related experience.
