Job Description

This position has overall responsibility for carrying out activities required under assigned JBS International, Inc. contracts. The main focus of this position is the support of in-person data collection activities for the National Agricultural Workers Survey (NAWS) contract which interviews crop workers throughout the United States. The position has elements of seasonality and part-time work effort. Data collection (interviews) will be conducted in-person in agriculture settings throughout the continental United States.


****Candidates MUST be able to obtain BLS Agent Clearance and certification to access sensitive and restricted BLS data.****


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct structured interviews with agricultural crop workers in English or Spanish, and accurately record responses to a predefined questionnaire in written or electronic form, such as on a tablet device.
  • Follow strict data collection protocols required by project administrators and the Federal government.
  • Conduct random sampling of workers prior to interviews following strict research protocols while in the field.
  • Obtaining consent from employers of agriculture crop workers to interview workers where they are working either in-person or over the phone. This requires the field interviewer understand how participating in the survey benefits both employers and workers.
  • Detailed documentation of in-field procedures, including worker sampling, and of contacts with employers and worker supervisors.
  • Careful and complete documentation of travel expenses for project accounting purposes.
  • Participation in regular training events held by project administrators.
  • Ability to work closely with another individual on multi-week trips to rural agriculture areas throughout the United States.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Language: Spanish and English fluency (spoken and written) at native or near-native-level required.

Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Experience: 2 years of relevant experience in a research or client-facing setting.

Soft skills: Ability to communicate effectively, ability to work independently or work collaboratively with a team. Ability to work in fast paced environment.

Location: Must be willing to travel throughout the continental United States on two week trips, every other week, for up to 10 months of the year.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to ride in a car for several hours a day.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and walk.
  • Normal or corrected vision to read documents and perform tasks that require visual accuracy.
  • Ability to hear and understand spoken information in person and over the phone.
  • Minimal lifting and carrying may be required, typically light office supplies or documents.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a social science discipline

Experience: 1 year assisting in or conducting field research

Skills: Qualitative interviewing and/or documentation of research notes or protocols.
