Description

Union Pacific Railroad Company is looking to fill a Senior Systems Engineer position in Omaha, Nebraska. As part of the Technology team, the Senior Systems Engineer will have the opportunity to build world class applications specializing in Marketing & Sales and Customer domain. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in integrating data from multiple sources enabling data-driven insights and solutions for our Marketing and Sales department. You will help Union Pacific grow while helping current and future customers understand the economic and ecologic benefits of rail transportation.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software solutions that deal with large amounts of external and internal data to bring forth business opportunities to the Marketing and Sales department.
  • Develop and implement advanced predictive analysis, ML algorithms, data visualizations, and other data science methods to derive meaningful economic and market insights.
  • Collaborate with Union Pacific's Platform team and data scientists, software engineers, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and data flow.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data engineering and cloud services.
  • Work closely with product owners and user experience teams in an agile environment to incrementally release new applications to support company growth.
  • Work as a part of a larger team to assist in meeting project goals.
  • Work with other team members to assist in meeting project goals through understanding applications and problem solving.
  • Participate in code reviews and collaborate with team members to facilitate solutions.
  • Formulate tests and contribute to continuous integration structure.
  • Provide 24x7 production support and troubleshoot business problems.
Qualifications - Required
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field.
  • 10 years or more of experience in software/systems development, including at least 5 years in a data engineering role with implementation of data mining, analytics, and machine learning experience.
  • Solid SQL skills for data design, querying, and data manipulation.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data engineering such as Python, Java, R, and/or Scala.
  • Experience with data transport and transformation APIs and technologies such as JSON, XML, XSLT, JDBC, SOAP, and/or REST.
  • Experience with big data technologies and platforms such as Snowflake or Teradata
  • Experience with visual analytics tools like Tableau or Power BI
  • Experience with machine learning and algorithm analysis.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to interpret business requirements.
  • Skilled experience with unit test coverage.
  • Knowledge of common software design patterns.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
Qualifications - Preferred
  • Experience working with Databricks and/or Azure ADF.
  • Experience working with unstructured and semi-structured data.
  • Proficient in big data technology Hadoop
