Job Description

Hill International is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer in Mahwah, New Jersey


  • This individual will be required to inspect all the work.
  • The Resident Engineer's primary responsibility is to provide assistance as needed to NJ Transit's Construction Manager.
  • Ensure all work elements will be performed and completed in compliance with project plans, specifications, codes, permits and Railroad Operation's safety regulations and engineering practices.
  • Provide standard construction QA/QC services, coordination and assistance with DCA and other Regulated Inspections.
  • Provide Construction Management Services and ensure that the work conducted by the Contractor is conducted in strict compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations.
  • Inspection of all work i.e., structural, architectural, and electrical, and all related work as specified and overall contract administration.
  • Reviewing project plans and specifications and preparing written contract administration documentation including daily work reports, controlled inspection reports, daily time and material records, and documentation of unit price work.
  • Ensuring that the work is in compliance with building standards, project specifications, and meet safety and compliance regulations.
  • Preparing daily reports, punch list inspections, and participating in project schedule and invoice reviews.
  • Assisting with the coordinating scheduling of subcontractors, consultants, inspectors, and vendors.
  • Reviewing contractor payment requests and recommend reasonableness to the Resident Engineer.
  • Reviewing project plans for constructability and preparing comments.
  • Preparing work estimates, related sketches, and other required documentation.
  • Monitoring and inspecting the work of Contractors, NJT Force Account and public utilities.
  • Maintain the on-site office and maintain a record copy of all project documentation/communication in the form of correspondence, meeting minutes, technical conversation summaries, telephone logs, etc.
  • Coordination of shop drawings reviews, prompt responses to Requests-for- Information (RFIs) and submittals.
  • Provide oversight and assistance in TVM equipment commissioning and preparation of the project's final as-built drawings and project close-out.

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, or Architectural Engineering or similar field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 5 years of experience inspecting construction work.
  • A valid New Jersey Driver's License
  • OSHA 30-hour certification
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of the NJDCA Construction and National Electrical Codes
