Position Description

Position/Level:  Systems Engineer-Specialized

Essential Functions: 
The systems engineer performs enterprise-level systems engineering and analysis within the enterprise system life cycle to ensure delivery of highly capable solutions to deployed personnel. The engineer is responsible for leading the analysis and updating of system architecture and requirements that ensure the proposed changes to the baseline are cost-effective, technically feasible, complete and accurate. He or she reviews customer needs, concepts of operation, operational constraints, and/or mission statements, to define and document changes to the enterprise baseline for deployable systems.  The engineer is responsible for presenting his or her products internally, and to the customer, understanding impacts, both within and external to the enterprise, and for building consensus on the plan forward. The engineer is required to work closely with counterparts in Enterprise Engineering, Configuration Management, development contractors, NSG System Integrator and other Key Component representatives.
 
The engineer will be a member of the NSG Deployable Systems (NDS) Program Management Office Engineering Team, and will support other systems engineers.  Additional responsibilities include:
 
  • Conduct System Engineering analysis (Top-Down, End-to-End) applying a working knowledge of systems architecture and tools to produce architectural artifacts (e.g. System Architecture).
  • Evaluate and generate requirements from National Security Emergency (NSE) requirements/ Taskers.
  • Analyze proposed architectural alternatives, integrating architecture views into Systems/User Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
  • Conduct broad range of system engineering / architecture functions including architecture, system element architecture, strategy, and requirements analysis
  • Develop integrated architecture concepts in conjunction with systems engineering frameworks, to depict required project deliverables
  • Prepare and generate cost charts and briefings for the NDS Program Office.
  • Participate in program reviews and Technical Exchange Meetings
 
Job Qualifications: 
The successful candidate will possess solid systems engineering skills, i.e., experience in two or more of the following: system architecture development, requirements analysis, development and management, configuration management/baseline control, and task or project management.  He or she will have superior communications and presentation skills, and experience in direct customer engagement.  The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills; be able to work within tight deadlines, and multi-task in an organized manner. 
 
Other job requirements include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in System’s Engineering, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience
  • 18+ years experience in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture or related field.
  • Understanding of NSG mission, products and users
  • Knowledge of the NGA organization
  • Experience conducting/participating in or leading studies or analysis of alternatives
  • Self-Starter, takes Initiative and is a team player
